January 13, 2010 - OGP - Florida Winter Tour Orlando Rotax Preview

The Ocala Gran Prix race team will return this weekend to the Orlando Kart Center for the first round of the Florida Winter Tour Rotax weekend. With some strong results during the Formula Kart round last weekend, Ocala Gran Prix will look to continue the momentum gained off a solid win in the Rotax Pro division.

With a partnership with Martijn Koene and Koene Racing Engines from Holland as well as Race Tech Development’s Mike Maurini, the knowledge and experience within the OGP tent has been elevated. With the goal of race wins and championships, Ocala Gran Prix will work with these companies as a team to cover all aspects of a race weekend and provide drivers with what is needed to win.

Returning to the team from last season will be DD2 pilot Cody Hodgson, Rotax Junior standout Nick Neri and junior Andrew Evans. All three competitors competed with the OGP squad in 2009 with Hodgson claiming the National Championship in DD2, while Neri garnered the Florida Winter Tour title and US National Championship. Both drivers traveled to the Rotax World Finals having very strong runs and will be a threat for victory in all events.

Also joining the team for the Florida Winter Tour events will be Californian pilot Gustavo Menezes. The talented senior has been honing his skills in the senior ranks and has been a constant front runner. With years of experience in Europe, Menezes will battle hard with some of North America’s best drivers.

Ashley Rogero will make her Rotax Mini Max debut this coming weekend after two very strong weekends in World Karting Association and Florida Winter Tour Vortex Mini Rok action. Rogero claimed four podium results at the Daytona Kartweek event before claiming a solid second pace finish last weekend in her first Vortex Mini Rok action. Look for the young female to be at the front of the pack throughout 2010. Joining Rogero in the Sportsman ranks will be Mathias Ramirez as he will trade his Mini Rok for Rotax power this weekend.

Master driver Rob Maier will be back in action this week competing in the Rotax Master class. Maier had a solid run last weekend claiming a third place result after starting from the tail of the field.

“This weekend is going to be tough as there is a lot of talent at these Florida Winter Tour events,” stated OGP Team Manager Kyle Kraus. “We have a very strong team for the opening round and should be able to fight for victory in almost every class.”
