February 22, 2012 - OCALA GRAN PRIX CLAIMS TWO WINS AND EIGHT PODIUMS AT FLORIDA WINTER TOUR

Picking up where they left off after the first round of the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour, it was another results-filled weekend for the Ocala Gran Prix squad at the Homestead Karting Complex just south of Miami. When all was finally said and done, Ocala Gran Prix left the facility with two main event victories, two pole positions, eight podium results and fourteen top ten finishes.

"It was another incredible weekend for Ocala Gran Prix," expressed OGP Team Principal Jorge Arellano. With more than 250 entries and talented drivers from all over the world, running at the front of the field is tough. To come home with race wins and podiums truly says a lot about our program. We are looking forward to the final event weekend in only a few week's time."

Leading the way was Rotax Junior pilot Oliver Askew who was unstoppable all weekend long. After claiming the pole position for both Saturday and Sunday's events, Askew, who is working with tuner Mike Maurini, scored the fastest race laps of the events en route to claiming two heat race wins and two main event victories. Solidifying himself as the driver to beat, Askew currently heads up the Rotax Junior championship points chase as he heads to rounds five and six in mid-March.

Rotax DD2 multi-time national champion Cody Hodgson continued his streak of podium results. After claiming a first and third in the first two rounds at Palm Beach International Raceway, Hodgson proved that he would be a threat for the title with a pair of second place results in Homestead. Having to come from deep in the field on Sunday, Hodgson was unfazed as he marched his way towards the front of the field.

Perennial front-runner Nick Neri was another Ocala Gran Prix driver who scored a pair of podium results against a stout field of Rotax Senior competitors. Competing against multi-time national and world champions, Neri held his own to take a solid second place result on Saturday and backed that up on Sunday with a third. Showing the speed and talent to win at the highest level of Rotax karting, Neri will be a threat for race wins in each and every race he enters.

Rotax Junior drivers Parker Thompson and Ashley Rogero accounted for another three top-fives for the OGP squad. Thompson came from outside the top ten on both Saturday and Sunday to claim two top five results with a fourth and a third. Rogero improved on her sixth place result on Saturday to take home a solid fourth place result on Sunday.

Jason Heffner and Robert Maier were a dynamic duo in the Rotax Masters class as both drivers were seen at the front of the field. Heffner showed his consistency with a pair of fourth place results while Maier was stripped of Sunday's main event victory due to a start line infraction. After leading nearly every lap of the final and crossing the stripe first, Maier was penalized and relegated to the third position. Disappointed about not retaining his first career victory, Maier will be back in Ocala looking to stand atop the podium.

Bill Lester in Rotax DD2 Masters and Mathias Ramirez in Rotax Mini Max added to Ocala Gran Prix's top ten totals with solid drives to seventh and eighth respectively.

Also flying the Ocala Gran Prix banner in Homestead were Micro Max driver Zach Hollingshead, Rotax Junior competitors Alex Hornborg, Brian Lockwood and Austin Garrison while Sting Ray Robb, Olivier Bellanger saw action in Rotax Mini Max. Mark Dismore Jr, Jonathon Kotyk, Andrew Evans, Annie Hayden and Brandon Salyer would have strong runs in Rotax Senior.
